Akshaya Tritiya


What is Akshaya Tritiya:

Akshaya Tritiya is one of the most auspicious days for Hindus. It is celebrated on the third day of the bright half of Vaishakha Maas (Vaishakha Shukla Tritiya or Thadiya). Akshaya Tritiya falls on 13th May,2013 this year. As per the Hindu traditions and culture, this festival is considered as the most significant day to perform sacred deeds (Punya Karya).

History of Akshaya Tritiya:

In the Puranas, the holy Hindu scriptures, there is a story where Ved Vyash once requested Lord Ganesha to help him compose the Mahabharata. Lord Ganesha accepted the offer. It is said that it was the day of Akshay Tritiya, that Vedvyash along with Lord Ganesha started writing the Mahabharata.

Also According to traditional history the day of Akshaya Tritiya is famous because of:-
• This day was the start of Satyayug or The Golden Age from the four Yugas.
Akshaya Tritiya or Akha Teej is the Birthday of the Sixth incarnation of lord Vishnu Parsurama.
• Sudama a childhood friend of Lord Krishna visit him on this day along with bitten rice and get rich in a movement from blessings of him.
• The ever holy River Ganga or Bhagirathi came over the Earth on this day.

On Akshaya Tritiya day:

Devotees, including women, offered puja and prayers at various temples to mark the occasion and celebrated with traditional religious fervour across the city. People Buy gold and silver jewelry, takes holy bath and dip in rivers, organize Ganesha and Lakshmi pooja, worship to Lord Vishnu specially on this day to get the blessing to get better health and wealth.

Celebrations in different states of India:

In Orissa on Akshay Tritiya, farmers start ploughing their land and construction of chariots for Rath Yatra begins at Puri. In Bengal, on the day of the Akshay Tritiiya, "HalKhata" - a ceremony to start the new audit book is performed - with the worship of Ganesha and goddess Lakshmi. Goa and Konkan regions, even today, are referred to as Parusurama Kshetra and many more places in india.
