What is Teachers Day:

In many countries, Teachers' Days are intended to be special days for the appreciation of teachers. On this day, Teachers are honored for their immense contribution towards the education and development of children. India celebrates Teachers Day on 5th september every year.

History of Teachers Day in India:

When Dr. Radhakrishnan became the President of India in 1962,he was approached by some of his students and friends and requested him to allow them to celebrate 5th September, his "birthday". In reply, Dr.Radhakrishnan said, "Instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege if September 5 is observed as Teachers day". The request showed Dr. Radhakrishnan's love for the teaching profession. From then onwards, the day has been observed as Teachers Day in India.

Celebrations On Teachers Day in India:

Most of the schools and institutions make elaborate preparations for the celebrations. The ceremony usually kicks off with a warm Teachers Day speech paying respect and thanking teachers for their contribution. This is often followed by a range of colourful cultural programs, feast and other activities which make the event special and memorable.
A few traditional ways of celebrating the event include presenting colourful flowers, beautiful Teachers Day cards or Gifts to Teacher as tokens of love and admiration. But students often try innovative ways and ideas to celebrate Teachers Day.

Celebrations Around the World:

Since Teachers Day is observed on different dates in different countries of the world, the celebrations also vary. World Teachers' Day is celebrated across the world on October 5. In many countries, cultural programs are held, which may include singing competitions, dance and play performances. The latest trend is to organize Teacher's Day party. Students are keen about throwing a lavish party for their teachers, to show how much they care and respect them.
